The Tree City USA program, organized by the Arbor Day Foundation, has been in place since 1976. This program is a national effort to encourage communities to manage and expand their public trees. Since the program's inception, over 3,400 communities have
committed to becoming a Tree City USA. Celina recently achieved the Tree City USA
designation for the second year in a row. This means that the City meets four core
standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or
department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrating Arbor Day. Not only was Celina able to secure a second
year of certification as a Tree City USA, but the City also received a Growth Award which is given to Tree City USA communities that demonstrate a higher level of tree care and
community engagement. Through updating the City's tree-friendly ordinances, the City was able to secure the Growth Award.
